FILLERS
„Fillers” are group of substances used in non-surgical rejuvenation of the face and other areas of the body.
Hyaluronic acid is the most popular of them. It is present in normal human skin providing it with moisture and elasticity.

Fillers are used for 2 main reasons:
- filling of wrinkles, creases and hollow areas,
- volume enhancement.

Correction of „tear trough” deformity, nosolabial creases and perioral wrinkles including „marionette lines” are most frequent applications of hyaluronic acid.

As a volume enhancer, it is used in lips and zygomatic areas augmentation.

Hyaluronic acid may be  also injected after surgery for finesse corrections.

Fillers are injected with very fine needles in previously anesthetized areas.
Depending on  injected volume and corrected area(s) the procedure lasts from 15-30 min.
Cooling compresses are applied for 15-20 min to decrease oozing and edema. Thereafter, patient may go home and return to normal activities with some minor restrictions.

It takes 2-3 weeks for edema to resolve. At this time corrected areas are revaluated and additional volume of filler may be injected if required.

Result of the therapy is immediate although it changes as edema resolves and filler is metabolized.
Effect of hyaluronic acid injections last 8-10 months and is individually specific.  New doses of filler may be injected after this period,

Filler injection may not be effective in correction of deep wrinkles. In these cases, fat grafting or surgical procedures are more accurate.

Hyaluronic acid injections correct effects of aging temporally and don’t stop natural aging processes.

This short information doesn’t replace medical consultation in the office.
