HAND REJUVENATION

Hands are one of the most exposed parts of human body. Thus, aging processes such as atrophy of subcutaneous tissue and excess of skin are particularly noticeable in these areas.

Dynamic progress in hand rejuvenation surgery has been observed in last years.

Fat grafting introduced for this purpose by one of "fathers of fat transplantation", Dr Sidney Calleman from New York, gives best results with minimal complications and scarring. Fat is liposuctioned from donor areas (i.e. lower abdomen, thighs, back) and after sterile processing it is injected to the dorsum of the hand. In this way atrophied subcutaneous tissue is restored and hands regain younger appearance. Moreover, abundant in harvested fat tissue stem cells, contribute to structural rejuvenation of the skin in treated areas.

Hand rejuvenation by fat grafting is performed in regional block or local anesthesia with analgosedation based upon patient's preference.

Patients may go home 3-6h after surgery.

In postoperative period hands must be kept in elevation till wounds are completely healed and edema resolved. Compression gloves should be worn for 4-6 weeks.

Return to normal activity involving hands is possible after 2-3 weeks.

Final aesthetic result of hand rejuvenation with fat grafting is obtained after 6-8 months and is related to partial (30-40%) absorption of transferred tissues and physiology of healing process. Obtained effect is long-lasting but not permanent. Although this procedure significantly rejuvenates hands it doesn't stop natural aging processes.

This short information doesn’t replace medical consultation in the office.
