Most frequently it is inversion of the nipple. Other disfigurements include its enlargement or elongation. Surgery of inverted nipple releases contracting structures and restorers its natural size, shape and projection. In more advanced contractures complete cutting of constricted ducts is required what may permanently impair breast feeding.
Corrective surgery of disfigured nipple is conducted in local anesthesia.
Skin incisions are placed at the base of nipple, within areola, what makes resulting scars imperceptible.
Patient is discharged home immediately after the surgery.
Return to normal (non-strenuous) activity takes 2-3 days. Sport activities (jogging, fitness) may be resumed after 1 month although nipple should be protected for 3 months.
Although results of this type of surgery is permanent, pregnancy, breast feeding, significant weight change and breast surgeries may change it.
