Enlargement of areola may be caused by pregnancies, hormones or be an individual feature. Surgery aims at circumferential resection of most peripheral part of areola and closure of resulting wound with concentric elastic suture.
Reduction of areola is performed in local anesthesia.
Skin incision are located within areola-skin junction thus resulting scars are hardly perceptible after normal healing is complete.
Patient is discharged home immediately after the surgery.
Return to normal (non-strenuous) activity takes 2-3 days.
Sport activities may be resumed after 1 month from surgery although nipple-areola complex should be protected for 3 months.
Although result of this surgery is permanent, pregnancy, breast feeding, weight change, breast surgeries may change it.
